Howard learned the restaurant business from one of the best. He began his career in 1980 as a Manager Trainee for Hall-of-Fame franchise owner, Dick Fox. Prior to that he attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, majoring in Business.

Howard first became a franchisee in 1991 in Detroit. Howard was the Detroit DMA president for 10 years. During that time, Detroit was awarded DMA of the year honors in 2007. In 2017, he sold his 43 Michigan locations; and he is currently a franchisee of record for WenCarter, which operates nine restaurants in upstate New York.

Howard served as a WNAP trustee for seven years and is currently a member of Wendy’s PAC. He has earned the Wendy award twice and was inducted into the Wendy's Hall of Fame in 2018. Wendy’s is a family business for Howard. His son, Michael is a franchisee with restaurants in Windsor and London, Ontario; and Howard’s nephew, Lewis Carter is his partner at WenCarter.
